President/CEO and Founder of Asian-American Homeownership Counseling, Inc. (AAHC)

Song established AAHC, 501 C 3, nonprofit in March, 2010, with the purpose of servicing Asian-Americans in becoming responsible and sustainable homeowners.  She has worked in housing, mortgage and finance industries for over 20 years and realized that Asian-American communities are generally underserved by society as a whole.  People generally believe that Asian-Americans are self-sufficient   (generally yes) and financially better off than some other ethnic groups, but in actuality, a large percentage of Asian-American homeowners are suffering from a shortage of resources, tools and knowledge to survive this turbulent economy.  Asian-Americans, particularly recent immigrants, have significant difficulty in understanding the American financial and housing system. Just as with any immigrant communities, they experience difficulties in communication, because of language barriers, cultural differences, and the minimum knowledge they have.  Song hopes to reach out and help the Asian American communities with their housing and financial education need and to assist their efforts to manage their finances responsibly and be able to afford to keep and maintain the homes they love.

Song currently is:
-Founder of the Asian Real Estate Association of America’s (AREAA’s), DC Metro Chapter, a 501 C 6 nonprofit, professional trade organization with over 300 members, which she established in December 2007.  Song was also the first Chairperson of the Board of Directors.   AREAA DC Metro is dedicated to providing its members with essential information to help grow their businesses and learn how to best serve the Asian American community in today’s volatile housing market.

Previously, Song was:
_Past Chairwoman of Washington Korean Realty Association (WKRA) - 2011, a nonprofit professional trade organization, covers DC, MD and VA.  Its mission is to educate the Korean Realtors with up to date market information, rules and regulations (compliances), and guide them to better serve the Korean homeownership community.  It also provides the direct educational programs to consumers.

-Past President and Chairman, and board member of Washington Korean Women’s Society, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit charitable organization since 1997.  WKWS provides financial support to AmerAsian Children in Korea and scholarships to high school students in DC, MD and VA.

-CRMP, Vice President at Capital Point Funding Group, Inc. in Rockville MD, serving MD, VA and DC residents since 2008, where she is an expert on reverse mortgages for seniors.   Song has earned her Certified Reverse Mortgage Professional (CRMP) designation through National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association (NRMLA) in June 2010 as part of their first and one of 9 designees.  She is a member of NRMLA since 2007.

-Sales Manager at Wells Fargo in its reverse mortgage division, DC Metro Branch from 2006-2008.

-Branch Manager/Retail Sales Officer, AVP for Riggs Bank and Chevy Chase Bank for over 12 years as a top bank manager.  At one point, Song managed the products and services sales training for residential mortgage products, and mentoring for over 400 bank employees as a Retail Sales Officer, AVP.

-Registered Representative and Financial Advisor with Acacia Financial Advisors in Rockville, MD.  A fully licensed; Series 7, 66, Annuity and MD Life Insurance.

ACTIVITIES

Fundraising and Marketing Chair, KORUS Festival 2010, Sept. 17-19 – Hosted by Korean American Association of Washington Metropolitan Area, 501 C 3, nonprofit association and Korean Embassy.  A major cultural event in Washington DC Metro area attracted 100,000 attendees recent years.

Co-Chair, Mortgage Workout and Financial Literacy Education Expo – Hosted by AREAA, AAHC and Fairfax County Family Services, VA (06/10): Helped 275 people with foreclosure prevention one-on-one counseling, workshops, financial education, down payment assistance program, and resources.  The event attendees were from all through DC Metro area and there were 100 volunteers, 14 housing counselors, and 5 Servicers.

Chair, Foreclosure Prevention/Making Home Affordable Fair – Hosted by AREAA DC Metro Chapter (06/09):  We helped bridge 181 troubled homeowners; Asian Americans, Hispanics, African-Americans and General Publics with their mortgage servicers or the HUD approved housing counselors on one-on-one to get help on their mortgage issues.  President Obama’s initiatives on Making Home Affordable Program is well said, however, it is not well served for immigrants with language barriers or to less knowledgeable homeowners because, the most lenders or housing counseling agencies are lack in the counselors with different languages.

This event was partnered by 6 lenders, 13 Housing Counselors, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mac, All major ethnic Medias, Grass Root Community Organizations and over 70 volunteers from all ethnic groups such as; Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino, Indian, Cambodian, and Hispanics.  The volunteers were served as translators to counselors and lenders and helped with Intake forms and other duties.

Co-Chair, Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) and National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP)’s 1st Annual Legislative and Policy Conference (03/09) in Washington DC:  First ever combined Asian and Hispanic Real Estate Professional Groups’ National Event.  Joined 400 professionals for a program focused on creating sustainable homeownership opportunities for the multicultural markets.

Song is a world traveler (she has visited all 5 continents, 25 plus countries), is culturally diversified, and loves nature and wildlife.  Married, have two daughters, a son-in-law and a granddaughter.
